Advertising Planning

How to develop an effective advertising plan

Planning your advertising strategy is an important step that will help you source a wide pool of high quality candidates through different channels.

E-RECRUITMENT via Taleo

The University uses an e-recruitment (electronic recruitment) system called Taleo to attract, screen and recruit suitable candidates.

Taleo has the following benefits:

  • Simple and easy to use.
  • Reduces the time taken to identify suitable candidates.
  • Supports the University in improving the quality and quantity of the candidate pool.
  • Reduces the cost of the hiring process.

Vacancies are advertised online through Taleo. The Hiring Manager or administrator uploads the information and is guided by the system.

The online vacancy includes:

  • the advertisement including the salary package
  • the position description
  • the key selection criteria

Speak with your Faculty HR Manager, Office HR Representative or the Staffing Advisors, Human Resources, to find out more about Taleo. You can also access Taleo Online Training here.

Advertisement Details

The Hiring Manager needs to ensure they have the following advertisement information for uploading into Taleo:

  • Job title
  • Position number
  • Type of position (continuing, fixed-term, full-time/part-time etc)
  • Term
  • Salary band/level/step
  • Reporting lines
  • Cost centre codes
  • Sourcing channels
  • Length of advertisement time
  • Methods of assessment (eg. interview panel, selection tools)
  • Brief advertisement content
  • Selection Criteria

Responding to Applications and Enquiries

  • Hiring Managers need to respond to candidate applications and enquiries promptly.
  • Shortlisted candidates need to be notified as soon as practicable and informed if the process is delayed.
  • Taleo has the capability to contact groups of candidates by email about the progress of their application. Personal contact by telephone may be used where it is considered preferable, for example, a senior management position. Candidates can also view the progress of their application when they login to the University’s Jobs with Macquarie website.
